Fidelity Investments customers whose bank details were exposed in a 2024 data breach have a narrow window left to claim a cash payment. The deadline to file was July 27, 2026. That deadline has passed as of August 26, 2026, so this draft should not be published as an open-claims article.
What happened
Between August 17 and August 19, 2024, an unauthorized third party accessed Fidelity's computer network and obtained certain customer information, including account numbers and routing numbers. A class action followed, and the parties have reached a proposed settlement.
The case is called In re: Fidelity Investments Data Breach Litigation, Case No. 1:24-CV-12601-LTS, pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. Fidelity denies any wrongdoing, and the court has not decided who is right; the parties agreed to settle to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.
Who qualifies
You may be a Settlement Class Member if you reside in the United States and your account number and routing number were exposed when a third party accessed Fidelity's network between August 17 and August 19, 2024 — including anyone Fidelity notified of the incident. Class members may have received a notice directly from Fidelity.
What class members can receive
- Reimbursement of documented losses — up to $5,000 for actual, documented out-of-pocket losses tied to the incident (losses that occurred between August 17, 2024 and July 27, 2026, and were not already reimbursed by a third party).
- California residents may also claim a payment for the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) claim brought against Fidelity.
Key deadlines
- Claim form: July 27, 2026 (online, or postmarked by that date if mailed); deadline passed
- Opt out / object: June 26, 2026
If you received a notice, it contains the Login ID and PIN needed to file online. Class members who can't locate their ID and PIN can request them from the settlement administrator at info@FidelityDataSettlement.com.
Why this matters
Financial-account breaches are among the most sensitive data-privacy cases, because exposed account and routing numbers can enable direct fraud. As with every data-breach settlement, the payment goes only to class members who file a valid claim on time — and here, that claim window closed on July 27, 2026.
