Certain people who completed a HireVue video interview while in Illinois may qualify for a payment from a proposed $3.75 million biometric privacy settlement.
The court-authorized settlement materials estimate that valid claimants may receive approximately $150, although the final amount could be higher or lower.
Claim forms must be submitted online or postmarked by October 13, 2026. The official settlement website currently lists this deadline.
Who may qualify for the HireVue settlement
A person may be a settlement class member if, while physically in Illinois, they completed a HireVue interview involving the relevant technology between January 27, 2017 and June 25, 2026.
Completing any HireVue interview does not automatically establish eligibility. The official FAQs say the case concerns only certain video interview models that allegedly analyzed candidates' facial or vocal characteristics.
HireVue states that the models at issue began being phased out in 2020, were retired by February 2023 and are not part of any current HireVue product. The class period runs through the date of preliminary approval and does not mean the disputed technology remained in use through June 2026.
People who received an email notice with a Login ID and PIN were identified as having an interview that likely involved the relevant models. People who did not receive notice may still submit a claim with interview documentation, and the settlement administrator will determine eligibility using HireVue's records.
What class members can receive
HireVue has agreed to create a $3.75 million settlement fund.
After court-approved administration expenses, attorneys' fees and expenses, and service awards are deducted, the remaining fund will be divided equally among settlement class members who submit valid and timely claims.
The official FAQs estimate an individual payment of $150, but the amount is not guaranteed. It will depend on the number of valid claims and the final court-approved deductions.
What information may be required
The official claim materials ask claimants to identify the employer or employers they interviewed with, the positions they applied for and the year of each interview.
People who did not receive a settlement notice may need records showing the interview occurred during the class period and involved the relevant HireVue model. Examples identified in the claim materials include a HireVue interview invitation or completion-confirmation email.
How to file a claim
Class members can submit an online claim through the court-authorized website or download a paper form and mail it to the settlement administrator.
Claims must be submitted online or postmarked by October 13, 2026. The official settlement website currently lists this deadline.
Approved claimants may choose a paper check or an available electronic payment method. Filing is free.
What the lawsuit alleged
The settlement is in Deyerler, et al. v. HireVue, Inc., Case No. 2026LA00000141, in the Circuit Court of Lake County, Illinois.
The plaintiffs alleged HireVue violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act by collecting voice and facial biometric information through automated interview technology without first providing required written disclosures and obtaining written consent.
HireVue denies that it collected or possessed biometric information covered by the law and denies violating the Illinois statute. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing, and the court has not decided the merits of the claims.
When will payments be sent?
The final approval hearing is scheduled for October 28, 2026 at 9 a.m. Central.
Payments will be sent only if the court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved. The official FAQs say payment is expected as soon as practicable after the approval order becomes final.
Submitting a claim does not guarantee eligibility, payment or a particular amount. The settlement administrator must validate the claim under the court-approved rules.
