Overview
Maximus Education, LLC, doing business as the student loan servicer Aidvantage, agreed to pay $3 million to settle a class action lawsuit, Knox v. Maximus Education, LLC (Case No. 2:25-cv-00121, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama). The suit alleges Aidvantage placed artificial or prerecorded voice calls to cell phone numbers without prior express consent, in violation of the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The settlement class covers approximately 32,188 unique cellular numbers called between February 12, 2021 and September 26, 2025 that were not assigned to a current or former Aidvantage customer. The settlement received preliminary court approval on June 9, 2026.
