Overview
The Federal Trade Commission reached a $2.5 billion settlement with Amazon over the way consumers were enrolled in — and tried to cancel — Amazon Prime. Amazon is required to pay $1.5 billion in refunds to affected customers and a $1 billion civil penalty, and to change its Prime enrollment and cancellation practices. Amazon settled without admitting wrongdoing.
Who qualifies
- You are an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
- You signed up for Prime through a "challenged enrollment flow," or tried to cancel through the online cancellation flow but were unable to do so, between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
- You used no more than three (3) Prime benefits (such as Prime Video or Prime Music) in any 12-month period after enrolling.
What you could receive
Eligible members receive a refund of Prime membership fees up to a maximum of $51. Refunds are paid in two ways: an automatic payment group (paid in November–December 2025, no action needed) and a claims process group, who were sent notices beginning January 2026 with instructions to file. Payments can be received by check, PayPal, or Venmo.
How to file your claim
- 1Watch for a claim notice from Amazon by email or mail if you did not receive an automatic refund.
- 2Follow the instructions in your notice to file a claim on the official settlement website.
- 3Choose your payment method (check, PayPal, or Venmo) on the claim form.
- 4The FTC will never ask you to pay a fee to receive a refund — do not pay anyone who promises one.
