Caddo Parish 1st Judicial District Court, No. 662980-C
Carter Credit Union, which does business as Carter Federal Credit Union, agreed to settle claims arising from a cyberattack that affected its network from June 25 through July 2, 2025. The lawsuit alleges that private information was compromised. Carter denies wrongdoing, liability, damages, and the plaintiffs' allegations. The court has not decided who is right.
The court-authorized class covers people whose personally identifiable information was compromised because of the incident. A valid claim is required by November 19, 2026. Claimants may choose reimbursement of up to $2,500 for supported losses or a $50 alternative cash payment. They may also request three years of one-bureau credit monitoring with identity-theft and fraud insurance.
The 1st Judicial District Court in Caddo Parish, Louisiana preliminarily approved the settlement and scheduled a final approval hearing for November 30, 2026. Benefits are not distributed until final approval and resolution of any appeals. A class member who does nothing receives no benefit and gives up covered claims unless that person validly opts out.

What you could receive
Option A
Up to $2,500 for documented losses
Submit bank statements, receipts, correspondence, or similar records showing the amount and connection to the incident. Self-prepared notes may explain other proof but are not sufficient alone. Already-reimbursed losses are excluded.
Option B
$50 alternative cash payment
Choose this instead of documented-loss reimbursement. No loss proof or explanation is required, but the claim must still be timely, complete, and valid.
Additional benefit
Three years of credit monitoring
Class members may request one-bureau monitoring with identity-theft or fraud insurance in addition to either cash option. An email address is required for enrollment instructions.
A claimant may choose either reimbursement of up to $2,500 for actual, documented out-of-pocket losses fairly traceable to the incident between June 25, 2025 and November 19, 2026, or a $50 alternative cash payment that does not require loss documentation. Those cash options cannot be combined. Three years of one-bureau credit monitoring with up to $1 million in identity-theft or fraud insurance may be requested in addition to either cash option. Carter separately pays administration expenses under the agreement. No benefit is paid until the settlement becomes final and the claim is approved.
