Overview

The settlement resolves allegations that certain Hyundai and Kia vehicles contain ZF-TRW airbag control units vulnerable to electrical overstress, which may cause airbags and other safety systems to fail during a collision. The case is In re: ZF-TRW Airbag Control Units Products Liability Litigation, No. 2:19-ml-02905-JAK-JPR, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The settling defendants deny the allegations. The court granted final approval on October 8, 2025.

  • You owned, leased, or previously owned or leased an eligible Hyundai or Kia vehicle on April 14, 2025.
  • The vehicle was originally sold or leased in the United States or a U.S. territory or possession.

The $62,100,100 settlement provides reimbursement for certain reasonable out-of-pocket expenses tied to completing covered recalls, residual payments of up to $350 for recalled vehicles and $150 for unrecalled vehicles, a 10-year new-parts warranty for parts installed through covered recalls, an inspection program, and recall outreach. Expense claims require supporting documentation; a residual-payment claim may not require additional documents when the administrator can verify the claimant and vehicle.
